Tamar Hirschfeld, b.1984, Jerusalem
An entitled naturalist, spiritual foodie, clueless bombshell, a rude tourist, Tamar Hirschfeld takes on different characters that highlight social power relations. Hirschfeld is a multidisciplinary artist working in film, sculpture, video-performance, sound and painting. In her practice she uses extreme, hackneyed representations of religion, nationality, gender and race from our cultural zeitgeist. Often taking on the guise of the fool or the scapegoat, her grotesquely provocative personas serve as a crude mirror of social stereotypes and injustice.
Her work has been shown in leading venues such as FIAC Paris, FID Marseille, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, CCA Tel Aviv, Bat-Yam Museum of Art, Herzliya Museum of Art and On the Seem Museum Jerusalem, among others. Her solo show “Neuland” in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art was one of the most visited shows of 2019 in Israel.
She won several grants and prizes, including The Outset Contemporary Art Fund Grant, The Israeli Ministry of Culture Prize for a Young video artist, “CROUS” french embassy grant and CCA Tel Aviv grant for experimental films and video art.
Hirschfeld attended the “Le Fresnoy - studio national”, an audiovisual research center in Lille, France, for a two-year residency program. She is currently showing at Musée des Beaux Arts, Marseille, a series of glass and sound sculptures make at residency at CIRVA, The International Glass and Visual Arts Research Centre, Marseille.
